I love trays. I love how many different types of trays there are- lucite, textural, glass, metal, antique, iron, etc... I also love how they are decorative AND practical. They are a great way to group your clutter, or a catch-all space. It allows you to keep things visible and not behind a cupboard or drawer, yet it helps it from looking messy by keeping it all in one space (thus more usable surface area). It's great to group things on your desk, on a coffee table, bathroom vanity or bedside table. They key is to get something with some sort of a lip or verticle edge.
